Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of TransCAPI: the API at api.transcapi.com, this website, and your account. By creating an account or using the API you agree to them. If you use TransCAPI for an organisation, you agree on its behalf.

1. Who we are

TransCAPI is run by TC Data Consultants, Suite 1A, 121 Giles Street, Edinburgh, EH6 6BZ ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@transcapi.com.

2. Your account and keys

  • You need an account, with an email address you can receive at, to get an API key. Keys work once the address is confirmed.
  • One free account per person or organisation. Opening extra accounts to get more free requests is not allowed.
  • Keep your keys secret. You're responsible for use of your keys; if one leaks, regenerate it from your dashboard.
  • Keep your account email up to date: we send receipts, plan changes and security notices there.

3. Plans and limits

Each plan has the daily allowance and per-minute limit shown on the pricing page. Requests over a limit are refused until it resets; they are never billed. We may change plans, prices or limits. For paid plans we'll give at least 30 days' notice by email of any price increase or reduction in limits, and the change applies from your next billing period after that, so you can cancel first.

4. Payment

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance and renew automatically until cancelled. Payments are processed by Stripe, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record for your purchase: it takes payment, issues receipts and handles VAT and other sales taxes. Stripe's own terms apply to the payment. The price you pay, including any tax, is shown at checkout.

5. Cancelling and refunds

You can cancel any time from Billing in your dashboard. Your plan continues until the end of the period you've paid for, then your account returns to the Free plan. We don't refund part-used months, except where the law requires it. Our Cancellation & Refunds page has the detail, including your rights if you're a consumer.

6. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • try to get round rate limits or plan allowances, including by sharing keys or spreading requests across accounts;
  • interfere with the service or its security, or send traffic intended to overload it;
  • resell or sublicense access to the API itself, or give your keys to others to use as their own (building your own product on top of the data is fine);
  • use the service for anything unlawful.

7. The data and attribution

TransCAPI's data comes from official open data, under the licences listed on our Data sources & attribution page. Those licences apply to you too: if you show the data to others, you must display the attribution described there. We don't own the underlying data and these terms don't give you any rights in it beyond those licences. TransCAPI is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by any transport operator or data provider.

8. Accuracy and availability

Transport data comes from many sources and can be delayed, incomplete or wrong: a bus may not run, a live time may lag, a disruption may not be reported. We work to keep TransCAPI accurate and available, but we provide it "as is" and don't promise it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or guarantee any level of uptime. Don't rely on TransCAPI alone where a wrong or missing answer could put anyone's safety at risk.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law. Subject to that, we're not liable for loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill, or for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the fees you paid us in that period, or £100 if greater. If you're a consumer, this section doesn't affect your statutory rights.

10. Suspension and closing your account

We may suspend or close an account, or disable a key, that breaks these terms, puts the service at risk, or has an unpaid subscription; where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to put things right. You can close your account at any time by emailing us, and we'll delete it as described in our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we'll email account holders at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using TransCAPI after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can cancel and close your account.

12. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.

Effective 29 September 2026. Questions: hello@transcapi.com. See also our Terms, Privacy Policy and Cancellation & Refunds.
